GVM & GVM UPGRADES - Illawarra

GVM & GCM UPGRADES

Setting up a 4WD for touring or towing can add weight quickly. Bull bars, winches, canopies, drawers, fuel, tools, passengers and caravan ball weight all contribute to the load your vehicle is carrying.

All Barred Up can help you look at your vehicle as a complete setup and discuss suitable GVM and GCM upgrade options based on what you drive, what you carry and what you tow.

Do You Need More Payload Capacity?

It’s easy to add hundreds of kilograms to a 4WD without really noticing it.

Once you add accessories, passengers, luggage and towing weight, the available payload can reduce quickly.

Depending on your vehicle and the approved options available, a GVM upgrade may provide additional legal carrying capacity.

Common reasons customers look at GVM upgrades:

Caravan and trailer towing

Canopies and service bodies

Touring setups

Bull bars and winches

Drawers and storage systems

Ride height

Long-range fuel tanks

Tools and equipment

WHAT IS GVM?

Gross Vehicle Mass is the maximum permitted operating mass of the vehicle. It includes the vehicle itself plus passengers, accessories, fuel, cargo and tow ball download.
12.png

WHAT IS GCM?

Gross Combination Mass relates to the combined mass of the vehicle and the trailer it is towing.

GVM and GCM are related, but they are not the same limit.

YOUR SETUP

Look at the Whole Combination.
For towing vehicles, it’s important to consider more than one number. Vehicle weight, axle loads, payload, tow ball download, trailer mass and the available upgrade options all need to be considered together.

Pre-Registration & Post-Registration GVM/GCM Upgrades

Depending on the vehicle and upgrade package, different options may be available before or after the vehicle is first registered.

If you’re buying a new 4WD and already know it will be fitted with a canopy, bull bar, winch, drawers, long-range fuel tank or used for towing, it’s worth considering the final vehicle weight before the build begins.

For existing vehicles, we can also discuss the post-registration upgrade options available for eligible models.

GVM Upgrades for American Trucks

American utes are becoming increasingly popular for towing, touring and work, but once you start adding canopies, accessories, passengers, fuel and gear, available payload can disappear quickly.

All Barred Up now works with America’s Garage / Outback Kitters to offer GVM upgrade options for selected American utes, with engineered packages designed to increase the vehicle’s legal carrying capacity.

More Than Just Heavier Springs

A GVM upgrade isn’t simply about fitting the stiffest springs available.

The suspension needs to suit the actual vehicle, the permanent weight it carries and how that weight is distributed.

That means looking at the finished setup rather than choosing suspension based only on lift height.

What We Consider

Vehicle model

Accessory weight

Front & rear axle load

Towing requirements

Intended use
